AI board reporting tools compared

finstory, Datarails, Fathom, Bob Finance (formerly Mosaic), and Claude connected straight to NetSuite: what each is built for, which systems it reads, whether it works inside Claude, and who should pick it.

By Wouter Born, founder of finstory · Updated 25 September 2026

The short answer

  • Choose finstory if you run NetSuite, present to a board every month and want the story drafted in Claude, without moving your planning into a new platform.
  • Choose Datarails if you want a full FP&A platform that keeps your Excel models, with AI presentations on top.
  • Choose Fathom if you are an accountant or a small business on QuickBooks, Xero or MYOB, reporting on one company or many.
  • Choose Bob Finance if you are a mid-size company that wants HR, payroll and finance planning in one platform.
  • Connect Claude straight to NetSuite for quick questions about your numbers. Plan extra work before you use it for a board pack.

We make finstory, so read this with that in mind. Every fact about another product comes from its own website or documentation, linked at the bottom and checked on 25 September 2026.

finstory

  • What it is: an AI financial storytelling layer between your ledger and Claude. It keeps actuals, budgets and forecasts in one governed model, and Claude drafts the board story from it page by page.
  • How it handles the why: figures are quoted from governed reports, never recalculated. When the ledger can’t explain a move, it asks you and pins your answer to the figure.
  • Output: a story shared by secure link with named people, or exported to PowerPoint.
  • Systems: NetSuite directly, plus spreadsheet uploads.
  • Price: early bird $1,000 a month, or $800 a month billed annually. SOC 2 certified.
  • Limits: no planning, budgeting or consolidation. It is new: early-bird customers and a small group of design partners so far.

Datarails

  • What it is: an FP&A platform that keeps your Excel models and connects to more than 600 sources.
  • Board output: Storyboards turn a dashboard into a presentation, with AI-written text on each slide that you can edit.
  • AI: Datarails AI (launched as FP&A Genius in 2023) has Strategy, Reporting and Planning agents. FinanceOS, announced in March 2026, connects Datarails data to Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, and board-ready reports are one of its named uses.
  • NetSuite: the integration runs through NetSuite saved searches and a Datarails bundle.
  • Price: on request. AI Storyboards are in the Premium tier.
  • Best for: teams that want budgeting, consolidation and reporting in one platform and plan in Excel.

Fathom

  • What it is: management reporting, cash-flow forecasting and consolidation for small and mid-size businesses, accountants, franchises and groups. Owned by The Access Group since 2022.
  • AI: Commentary Writer, launched in March 2026 at no extra cost, drafts report commentary and links every figure back to its source data. Board packs are one of its named uses.
  • Systems: QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB, Sage Accounting, FreeAgent and spreadsheets. NetSuite isn’t on its integrations list.
  • Price: per company, from AUD 59 a month, with portfolio plans for firms.
  • Best for: accountants and advisors reporting on many clients, and small businesses on the systems above.

Bob Finance (formerly Mosaic)

  • What it is: HiBob announced it was buying Mosaic, a strategic finance platform, in February 2025, and launched Bob Finance in November 2025. It combines financial insights and planning with HiBob’s HR and payroll. mosaic.tech now redirects to HiBob.
  • AI: Bob AI finds performance drivers and writes board-ready summaries.
  • Systems: more than 30 data connectors. Before the acquisition, Mosaic listed NetSuite among its ERP sources. The current pages don’t name it.
  • Price: on request.
  • Best for: mid-size companies, especially HiBob customers, that want people and finance data in one place.

Claude connected straight to NetSuite

  • What it is: Oracle’s free NetSuite AI Connector Service. Claude runs reports and saved searches, reads records and queries data read-only.
  • Board output: Oracle’s optional “NetSuite Finance Analyst” plugin gives Claude a fixed outline for board narratives. It is instructions only: there are no stored reports, budget model or publishing.
  • Limits: reports filter by date and subsidiary, not accounting period; AI clients typically handle about 5,000 rows per call; Oracle lists hallucination among the risks it can’t rule out.
  • Best for: fast questions on NetSuite data. For a monthly pack, see how to build a NetSuite board pack in Claude.

How to choose

  1. Where do your numbers live? On NetSuite, the confirmed options are finstory, Datarails and the direct connector. QuickBooks or Xero point to Fathom.
  2. Do you need a planning platform too? If yes, look at Datarails or Bob Finance. If your budgets already work, you only need the story on top.
  3. Where does your team want to work? If Claude is already open all day, pick a tool that works inside it.
  4. Can you trace every figure? Ask each vendor to click from a number in the board pack to the ledger lines behind it.
  5. What happens when the data can’t explain a move? The right answer is “it asks you”, not “it writes something plausible”.

Questions CFOs ask

Which AI board reporting tool works with NetSuite?

finstory and Datarails both connect to NetSuite, and Claude can read NetSuite directly through Oracle's free connector. Fathom's integrations list doesn't include NetSuite. Bob Finance (formerly Mosaic) doesn't name NetSuite on its current pages.

Which tools work inside Claude?

finstory works inside Claude as a connector. Datarails connects its data to Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot through FinanceOS, announced in March 2026. Oracle's NetSuite connector brings raw NetSuite data into Claude. We found no Claude connection for Fathom or Bob Finance.

Is finstory a replacement for an FP&A platform?

No. finstory doesn't do planning or consolidation. It turns your close, budget and forecast into the board story. If you are also choosing a planning platform, compare Datarails or Bob Finance for that part.
